TRIBUTE TO MY FELLOW MUSICIANS March 19, 2012
In the last decade or so the music scene in Portland has really blossomed to the point now there is a wealth of talent and venues to see and hear music. Also Portland has several fine recording studios to work in...and boasts one of the most famous mastering houses in the world...Gateway Studios.
Back in my day in the late 60's and 70's...when we played it was a high schools and colleges. Now there are many good venues in Portland and southern Maine to go to for a night of good music. Some of the Portland venues include One Longfellow Square...the recently renovated State Theater...Empire Dine & Dance...The Asylum and others. There is always a good choice of places to go to see and hear great music in Portland.
And speaking of music...there are too many excellent bands and Solo artists to mention playing...and the competition is fiece getting a venue booked to showcase their music...but you'll find all kinds of music in Portland...something for every taste. The late Speaker of the House tip O'Neil once said..."all politics is local"...I'm here to tell you...all music is local too!
And we have two excellent music organizations in town to support the music community...the Portland Music Foundation...which helps musicians get their work out...and the Maine Songwriters Association which helps musicians craft their original works. We are very fortunate to have these two great sources here.
So anyone reading this...next time you want a good night out...check the paper or go online...find your type of music...and go hear it! Support your local music scene...because...all music is local!
